- Why do they always bring you margarine in restaurants? And where is the butter? The first time I was given margarine I was kind of surprised and grossed out. I haven’t eaten it in 10 years, probably. I am guessing it is just cheaper than butter. Or do Ticos just prefer to eat margarine?
- I noticed they sell large packages of MSG in the supermarkets. Is MSG more commonly used here (than the U.S.)? I realize it’s available in the U.S., but it has been out of favor there for many years. Do Ticos regularly cook with it? And is it in the Chinese food here?
- Where are all the napkins?! I like to use lots of napkins. At home, we use cloth ones in order to save the trees and all. But when I’m out and about, I like to use lots of them. With kids in tow, I view them as necessary. But the restaurants here don’t seem particularly generous with them. Where have all the napkins gone?
